Resume hanging; it's the only
way to deter vicious
criminals
Dear Editor,
So it was a good week for Guyana as criminals, who put terror on the faces of innocent Guyanese, were caught and killed just as they killed Guyanese.
I have no apologies to make when I say I was overjoyed to see their sorry faces in the media (TV and newspapers).
They did not get to answer to the Guyanese people for their horrendous actions, but at least they will meet their maker and tell him why they resorted to such dastardly acts. Shame on them, I say. Every time I hear three of them or two of them are found, I am overjoyed; and so must other Guyanese feel. However, this small victory must not make our heads swell big and say that the fight is over. On the contrary, it is far from being over. There are dozens, possibly hundreds more, of these sick criminals in our society hiding, prancing, waiting, watching, scheming and plotting their next move.
Who is next? Which innocent Guyanese who's just caught at the right place at the wrong time will fall victim? Would lives be lost?
These are questions only these individuals can answer. We dream of a day when we, Guyanese, will once again feel safe to live in our communities, to stay out a little later than usual, and to let the fear go away in our minds. No government can give us that feeling, but each of us is responsible for crime-free communities. Each of us can guarantee our neighbour's safety. Each of us has to be the other's eyes, ears and more.
I must thank our police and the army for their perseverance these past couple of days in finding these low-minded people of the earth.
However, sad to say, your job is not over. In fact, as with terrorism in the world today, with the number of bandits already shot and killed, there might be the same number of persons ready to take their places. So, the job of keeping us safe is just beginning.
I understand the Joint Services (police and army) were personally motivated to go after these bandits and terrorists. I am glad because that might have played a huge part in the capture of these men. Many may ask where God is.
He knows and sees all; let us pray more fervently. I know it's against my Catholic religion but I'd love for us to start, or restart I should say, hangings in Guyana . I think it's the only way.
