President -show
draws large audience
Georgetown, GINA, August 19, 2007
Thousands converged at the National Cultural Centre last evening for Naya
Zamana 12, a production of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha that fuses rich Indian
culture with beautifully choreographed dances and melodic songs in an
entertaining theatrical performance.

Amongst those
in the audience was Head of State President Bharrat Jagdeo who commented that
persons coming to Guyana next year for the Region’s premier cultural show,
Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) will be enthralled by Naya Zamana.
“I know last year members of the group participated in CARIFESTA and from the
reviews we got it was an excellent reception. Next year we hope that they would
be one of the main features of CARIFESTA in Guyana when we host this regional
endeavour showcasing the region’s culture, but more particularly the Guyanese
culture and I hope that we can all turn out in large numbers next year,” the
Head of State told the audience.

He said the show has lived up to its expectations year after year. “We have
come to recognize Naya Zamana as a wonderful show put together by young people
and it has excited us year after year and I think we must commend the young
people of the Dharmic Sabha for putting together this wonderful exhibition,”
President Jagdeo said.

The colourful costumes, sophisticated set designs and a script packed with
jokes, drama, dance and music mesmerised the audience from the opening act to
the finale.
Already preparations for next year’s
CARIFESTA have begun and Government has set its mind to ride the challenges and
pull together a culturally rich experience for those coming to Guyana for the
festival.
