Ridiculous situation
IF YOU are in a vehicle, it takes three to five hours to cross the Berbice River on the ferry boat or pontoon.

This is ridiculous!

Persons travelling to Berbice find it extremely difficult to do so in a timely manner.

The distance is already long and to compound matters, you have an eternal waiting to cross the river when using your own transportation.

On July 4, I travelled to Berbice.

I arrived at the stelling just before 13:00 hrs. I crossed the river at 18:00 hrs.

The vehicle I was in boarded the vessel at 16:15 hrs.

Then there was a problem with the door of the boat. This took forever to be remedied.

What really is the Transport and Harbours Department doing to help commuters on this route?

Worse than the wait is the length of the `priority line’ that you have to put up with.

I do not recognise many of these persons being given priority as those who fit the criteria for such a privilege.

This makes it exceedingly hard on the normal man who has to line up for hours because others are given `priority crossing’.

I think the rules governing this practice should be enforced strongly and the T&HD should try harder to regularise this practice.
